St. Mary's faculty-staff discussion group is congenial and open to a broad spectrum of ideas. A warm welcome awaits new members. University faculty and staff, and their affiliates, are invited to participate. The group consists of about 40 couples/singles of varying ages and diverse interests and connections to the University.
The group meets monthly in members' homes, usually on a Saturday evening. Members gather about 7:30 p.m. and socialize until 8 p.m. Discussion occupies the next 60-90 minutes, followed by dessert and coffee. The group sets its own agenda and topics for discussion at a shared meal in September. Over the years the topics have varied widely from ethical issues in the drug industry, abortion, and capital punishment to the popular and classical arts and an information session on the Muslim faith. Usually the group has three special events each year, a Christmas season party, a meal for charity prior to Easter, and a movie night featuring a film that expands social consciousness.
A primary unifying factor in the group is a desire to extend a sense of community beyond the liturgy and parish-wide activities. Members of the group also offer service and support to the parish in a wide variety of ways.
If you have questions, or if you would like to be on the group's mailing list, contact Eric or Sherry Warden by phone at 734-663-8818 or
