"For surely I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me: if you seek me with all your heart" —Jeremiah 29: 11-13

Catechist Formation Program

As a Catechist you have a unique opportunity to round out your University experience!

What is required?
Attendance at a monthly catechist dinner - usually the third Tuesday of the month - from 6 - 8pm, September - March. These evenings start with dinner, home-cooked by the parents, followed by an input session about the material to be presented during the First Sunday session and concluding with time for team planning.

Attendance at the monthly First Sunday Family Faith Formation program. Sessions are held monthly on the First Sunday, except when there is a conflict with the University schedule, then we meet on another Sunday. Catechists work with the children from October - April. Families gather for one of three sessions: 8:00am, 11:00am or 1:00pm. The focal point of the day is the 10am Mass. You would work with the children at one of these sessions.

But I've never done this before!!!!
Never fear - you will be working with a team of two - four catechists, all of whom are expected to attend each First Sunday session.

At the first Catechist Dinner each person has the opportunity to sign up for the grade and time with which they wish to work. Levels are from pre-K - High School. The groups of children are usually small and have a team of two - four catechists. We are blessed to have the assistance of two master teachers who are available to answer any questions and/or concerns you have about planning your sessions. Session plans are submitted to Sr. Catherine each month for affirmation and input.

The time commitment is about 5 hours a month and as the commercial says the experience is PRICELESS! Talk to those who have participated in this program - learn what it is like first-hand. Be sure to encourage your friends to participate in this program!!!!!

Preparing children for First Reconciliation and First Communion requires slightly more of a time commitment - there are a few extra sessions.

Preparing students for Confirmation is a separate program under the direction of Sister Dorothy Ederer, OP - or call 734-663-0557 ext 228

I think I'm interested - who do I contact?
Sister Catherine Morgan, OP, Director First Sunday Program - or call 734-663-0557 ext 234
