Participants
Undergraduate students interested in serving others, willing to work, meet new people, share experiences, and have fun! Students, whether Catholic or other, are welcome; however, priority of selection is given to members of the Newman Catholic Student Association. ALL participants should be prepared for Christian reflections and prayer throughout the ASB program.
Participant Commitment
Your group will meet throughout the winter semester to orient and educate yourselves about the issues you will encounter on your site. As ASB participants, you will have an obligation to the community you will be living with to come prepared - mentally, physically, and emotionally. We will meet numerous times throughout the winter semester for a combination of a community service project, fundraising and social activities with your group, and educational activities as a group. Attendance and participation in planning meetings and group activities are MANDATORY. (See Important Dates below)
Alcohol Policy
Alcohol and drug use and possession on any UM-ASB trip is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN due to university policy, liability and legal issues, respect for the members of your group and - most importantly - the individuals and organizations with whom we are working during spring break. If you are found with alcohol or drugs, you will immediately be asked to leave your group and travel home at your own expense.
Domestic Cost
The cost per participant is $100 (Flint - $75). This amount helps cover site fees, transportation costs, and general cost for all of the ASB trips within the United States. Some out of pocket expenses will also be incurred during the week to cover some of the food and any personal expenses you may have. Each group will help collect money through a bucket drive to cover some of the additional expenses.
International Cost
The cost per participant is $1000. This amount helps cover site fees, airfare costs, and general cost for the Pueble, Mexico trip. This does not include the cost of your passport. Some out of pocket expenses will also be incurred during the week to cover some of the food and any personal expenses you may have. This group will help collect money through a bucket drive at one of the Spanish masses during the winter semester to cover further expenses.
