What I will remember is how to keep my eyes open to the reality of the conditions in my own community, how to see the dignity in every human I meet, and how to take action instead of ignoring the worst.
Trista Doyle—Flint, MI
I think I will always look back on this ASB trip and remember it as the time when my perception of the world broadened. I always considered myself pretty worldly. After all, I’ve always read National Geographic. But after meeting and talking with people from countries that I didn’t even know existed, my view of how diverse the world is has drastically changed.
Josh Borths—Nashville, TN
By living more simply, I think I was less aware of myself and more aware of all those around me.
Michelle Cote —Meridian, MS
I really enjoyed being able to devote an entire week to faith and service and hope to be able to set aside more time in my weekly routine to do more service.
Jackie Harriage—Mt. Pleasant, SC
I hope that, because of this trip, I will become more aware of the problems of homelessness and hunger in my own communities. I also hope that I will remember the stories and hope that I found from meeting the nuns and the people of the St. Luke's Women's Center.
Daniel Cox—Flint, MI
My ASB experience has inspired me to do more to combat social injustice as well as keep an open mind about other cultures. After meeting so many people from other countries, I want to travel somewhere and put myself in their shoes, which I hope I can do in the future through a job or even study abroad.
Erin Biehl—Nashville, TN
I’ve come to realize that while I may disagree with the political aspects of the church, the community is an overwhelmingly comforting and vibrant place to deepen my faith and get involved with social justice issues.
Caitlin Fitzsimons—Cranks Creek, KY
