About Us

St. Mary's Graduate Student and Young Professional Discussion Group serves graduate students from the University of Michigan and young professionals from the local community. We are geared towards helping each other grow in faith and knowledge and towards providing a fun and social atmosphere for all. The university environment provides a great pool of resources and knowledge in many different areas which we can draw upon, and we as a parish are able to reach out to that greater community through talks, service, and our presence. This mutual outreach is at the heart of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' call to campus ministry in Empowered by the Spirit. At St. Mary's, our understanding of our own mission and circumstances, through the input of the parish body and in the light of Empowered by the Spirit, has led to our Pastoral Vision, a guide to help direct our efforts towards our goals, while being open to change as needed.

We meet on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from 7:00-9:00 P.M. at St. Mary Student Parish for Praying with Scripture (reflections on the Sunday readings), and on the first and the third week of the month we usually have a volunteering activity, a talk or a discussion (most of which are on Mondays too). The discussions are always good natured, and they work best when we are able to really engage one another. In keeping with the campus ministry mission of St. Mary Student Parish, we seek to provide an atmosphere in which we can build community with our brothers and sisters in Christ, and also serve others through our service activities. Together, we learn more about our faith and the different ways in which we can live it out.
